I haven't had many regrets, but having a student loan is my biggest regret. That may also be your biggest regret.
"Debt: A sum of money that is owed or due."
" Loan: a borrowed thing, especially a sum expected to be paid back with interest.
Nowadays, who doesn't have debt? Most people are in debt because of the school system. So do I! Other people get into debt because of other loans such as credit cards. Here, I'm speaking only about school loan debt.
My journey
It was excellent; I finished High school and wanted to attend college. Sadly, I needed to borrow money to attend; otherwise, I couldn't go. Some see it as an opportunity that some don't have, which might be accurate, but is it worth it? Is getting into debt for a degree that doesn't guarantee a job worth it? No!
After you get the degree, you still need to get a job. Other people decide to get a master's degree, and so on. After all those 'thousands' degrees, they still can't get a job; why? Because everybody is competing for the same positions. Everybody is heading in the same direction, forgetting that they have God's given talents. We have skills that make us unique, and we can do many beautiful things.
What schools fail to teach
What school doesn't teach us is how to be different in our society and how you can use your talents and passion to make a living out of it. It still may be the choice for some, but we would have a world where more people would use their talents and creativity. But we are shaped into this slave mentality that we need to go to school; otherwise, we can't be successful.
Think about it: you got that degree, the student loan you need to pay back, the job you might not like, 40 times a week, and living paycheck to paycheck. Are you feelling succesfull? Is that what being successful means? I do not want it!
Our system
We have been programmed like that since birth about how the school system is. It is said that if you don't get a degree, you can't get a job. Without a job, you can't eat, and so on. Yet, nobody tells you the reality! School is a scam to keep people under control so that nobody can develop their talents, which they can use to make a living while being their true selves. But we end up being slaves of our society, living short till the day we die.
I finished school and, in reality, hated what I studied. Did I make the wrong choice? No, I didn't; I still like what I learned, but they don't tell you how different it is in real life. You've tested yourself to see which study is the best for you, but they need to test who you are.
I don't regret that I went to college and didn't get a job afterward. My biggest regret is the debt. I have 15 years to pay what I borrowed in less than six years; others have 35 years. It is only getting worse. Yes, like that, we became slaves of a system. The school system! That is called modern slavery.
Now that I'm on the other side, I wish I had other options! I wish I knew better!
Be wise!
But how to be wise? What are things that you can do? If you have a student loan, work part-time and save some money to pay back. Or you can work when you are young and use it for future studies, so you don't need to get a loan. If you have a loan, try to finish your studies quickly. If you don't have kids, start saving for this kid the day they are born.
Focus on more than just school. Because when you focus only on school, what they teach you is the only skill you will have. Try to have a hobby you enjoy and do it. Travel, see the world. I wish I had done any of these tips I'm giving. This is my story of how student loans became my biggest regret!
