What is real love? (Part 2)

There is this saying:

"Love is blind" - Geoffrey Chaucer (1401)

Definition: people in love can't see the problems or imperfections that their partners have.

True love is not a strong, fiery, impetuous passion. On the contrary, it is calm and deep in its nature. It looks beyond mere externals and is attracted by qualities alone. It is wise and discriminating, and its devotion is real and abiding. Love is a precious gift that we receive from Jesus. Pure and holy affection is not a feeling but a principle. Those who are actuated by true love are neither unreasonable nor blind. (Letters to Young Lovers, E.G.White, 1983, pg. 30)

What is the origin of love is blind?

"Love is blind" is a simple statement about how people behave when they are in love. It's derived from Cupid (the Roman god of love) because Cupid was painted with a blindfold as if he was blind. Maybe He chose the wrong match because He couldn't see? That is only one of the versions.

What is real love?

Love is accepting this person with all his imperfections. It is beyond external appearance. You are completely aware of this person's behavior, but you chose to love Them as They are. Remember, these imperfect people have good qualities; they are not abusive or disrespectful. That's why love is a choice.

So, true love is being aware and accepting this person for who They are. While "love is blind" is when your feelings blind you from seeing the truth, and when that feeling is over, you will realize that you never liked that person.

Love unconditionally!
